A SPITTAL man has died after a four vehicle crash on the A1.

Alexander Gibson, 32, from Sunnyside Crescent, was pronounced dead at the scene following the collision at 7.30pm on Monday evening at Denwick.

Mr Gibson’s Peugeot is believed to have collided with a Toyota Rav4 and was in turn hit by a Volvo articulated lorry, forcing his car off the road. A Suzuki Ignis was also involved in the collision.

Police believe Mr Gibson was travelling north on the A1 when the collision occurred with the southbound Toyota.

Police, paramedics and the fire service attended the scene, and the driver of the Toyota was taken to Wansbeck General Hospital with non life threatening injuries. The drivers of the lorry and Suzuki were uninjured.

A section of the road was closed for around four hours to allow for collision investigation and recovery of the vehicles involved.

Police have appealed for anyone who was in the area around the time of the collision, or has any information into the incident, to contact motor patrols.

Meanwhile, a 62 year-old Berwick man is in a serious but stable condition in hospital in Inverness following a collision on the A95 near Aviemore.

A 32-YEAR-OLD man was killed on the A1 north of Denwick in a four-car collision last night.

At 7.30pm on Monday (November 14), police received a report of a collision taking place on a section of the A1 just north of Denwick.

Four vehicles were involved in the collision – a Peugeot, a Toyota RAV4 4x4, a Suzuki Ignis and a Volvo artic lorry.

The Peugeot is believed to have been travelling north on the A1 when it collided with the Toyota that was travelling south.

The Volvo lorry then collided with Peugeot causing it to leave the carriageway.

Police, paramedics and fire services attended the scene of the collision and the driver of the Peugeot, a 32-year-old man, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the Toyota was taken to Wansbeck hospital with non life threatening injuries. The drivers of the Suzuki and the lorry were uninjured.
